February 2017 Update

❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

In honor of this love-sharing day, I thought I might come out of my cave to give you guys a much-requested update. Some of you ask, “Kel, have you even started the book?” Yes, yes, I have. I’ve written over 400 pages of KDT goodness (or darkness—however you want to look at it). But, it’s not finished, and I prefer not to guess at a release date because you will undoubtedly be upset if I don’t meet it. Honestly, I work better when I don’t feel the pressure of an impending due date.

I am often asked which other books I like that are like KDT. In lieu of releasing Book 3, I have prepared a list of fantasy books by other authors that you might enjoy. You can find this list under the new “Suggested Reading” tab on my website. The list is far from complete, but I could probably go on for days. (Disclaimer: For most of these, I’ve fallen behind in the series and haven’t read all the books. I’ve been busy. 😎)

Please feel free to comment and add your favorites to the list!

(Remember to mark posts containing spoilers with **SPOILER** before the rest of the comment.)

Love the series, tried the audiobooks and I think I’ll just stay with my own head. I think they are well done, just not the medium I prefer. Thanks for showing us your world and I look forward to the next book! And I’m sure you don’t need anymore but I’d definitely beta read for you if you did.

How dare you make such an incredible story and make me wait for more?

I thoroughly enjoyed your books but I think you need to change publisher.

Now I understand this is a business and you have to make money, fair enough. Except now you release updates like this teasing your fans when I know the book is already finished and you’re just waiting to release an offshoot book to make more money. The first two books were obviously one book that the publisher decided to split for monetary purpose. Please don’t let greedy publishers ruin another great series like Peter V Brett or GRRM. Less is more and Da Vinci died penniless!

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I’m self-published. (Except the audiobooks, which are produced by Podium Publishing.)

I did originally write Books 1 and 2 at the same time, but I split it because the book was too long. People are sometimes hesitant to start a massive tome by a new author. It had nothing to do with making more money. In fact, when I first released the books, I figured I could call it a success if I sold 50 copies! 😂 I only charged 2.99-3.99 for each, plus I listed them with KindleUnlimited, so people can get them for free. That’s hardly a formula for fortune, and you’re still getting both books for less than you would have paid through a mainstream publisher.

I know you’re all excited about Book 3, which is awesome, but it’s really not finished. I did want to release a side story before Book 3 but not just for more money. It is a story that needs to be told to enhance the plot, but I think it will bog down the flow of the main arc if I include it there. I decided early on to wait on that because people are eager for Book 3, and I think it will fit between Books 3 and 4 just as well.

Thanks for your support. I hope you continue to enjoy the series.

A lot of that was a stab in the dark. I assumed after the success of your first two books you would have been snapped up by a publisher for sure! They were obviously one book!
Honestly I just don’t want your quality to drop. I would recommend your books to any friend of mine except I am loath to recommend an unfinished series. Please keep doing what your doing and in the meantime I guess I just have wait! (Unless you need beta readers (I don’t belong to any forums on any website!))

Just out of curiosity, how many copies have you sold?

Thank you so much for the update, I am eagerly awaiting the release of book 3 in the KDT series. I really enjoyed the first two and anticipate the third being just as good. Keep up the good work!

I’ve read every book on that list…we have great taste 😉 Take your time with the next KDT, I know how long the authorial process takes. We all benefit from a polished book!
